Face of ..., Copper Engraving, 25x18cm
This engraving is a self-portrait and an attempt at a single concentric spiral portrait. The title of the print leaves a ... for the many roles we fill in our daily lives: husband, father, employee, printmaker... This print is heavily inspired by two artworks: The veil of Saint Veronica, 1649 by Claude Mellan, and Self-Portrait painting by Albrecht Dürer. Upon making this engraving I learned that Durer was 28 when he painting it, just before his 29th birthday. A funny coincidence, as I am also the same age.
